I just turned 21!

I don't really have as much to talk about in this post as i'd like, ive been hard at work behind the scenes on a ton of cool projects that i'm excited for everyone to eventually see! Which is a nice change of pace tbh, I really enjoy being productive. Project wise, what I can say is that i'm helping out with @frosty 's bug collab!

Newgrounds feels like home and I hope you all love the stuff that is to come as much as i love making it! My PASSION for game development that I once thought was gone has full swinged back into my life so now I spend my days in the GODOT mines LOL

Since I don't have much to share I'll just share a more personal tidbit:

A lot of shit has changed for me in my personal life, shit just happens ya'know? I've got a positive mind about it all but its still been a thing to work through and grow from. I bring this up to say, Despite everything, I am incredibly proud of my own growth both as a artist and as a person. I feel like Newgrounds and the wonderful people I've met on here have enabled me to do things i wouldn't have even thought about doing a couple years back, and for that.. im really damn grateful! Crazy to think that my last birthday post was my first proper NG Blog post! Time flys!

I've learned a lot about making stuff from you guys! I've also just learned a lot about life in general. Last year I made my birthday post before the day was really going, I think it was like 3 am or smth, and I ended it with "...hopefully future Emi is hanging out with friends and having a chill af birthday." its cheesy as FUCK but this year I don't really gotta hope because I am surrounded by wonderful people and can trust knowing that the future is happy or whatever.

I'm gonna be spending the day surrounded by lovely people!!

emizips kitbashed 2023 recap

I wanted to do blog updates more regularly but i realized quickly im bad at these so its gonna go back to being pure sporadic "dump my thoughts into this word box" kinda junk. This was the year where I really feel like I've hit my stride with making stuff and being a part of this big ol Newgrounds community, I've made so many friends on here and created so many memories with them! I am incredibly thankful for the opportunities this corner of the web has given me and im always trying to find ways to give back!

I wanna share some highlights of the year! I don't wanna write for a billion years so its not gonna be literally everything, either way it'll be nice to have a recap post of sorts to look back on in the future.

Creepypasta Collab 2023

I feel like it'd be a crime not to start off with this, esp since it was the most recent big-thing I've been apart of. When I first started hanging out in Newgrounds spaces, a joke spawned in a massive discord VC that resulted in the hosting of the original Creepypasta Collab. It was extremely messy, thrown together, and poorly handled BUT it was extremely fun and so so so much cool art came out of it! It was a very enjoyable learning experience but I sorta left the whole event not expecting to do it again, That was until people that participated started reaching out to me about it. Because of how open ended the whole thing was, it was a lot of peoples first ever Newgrounds collab! It felt like a total honor to have hosted a bunch of folks first ever collab and just hearing that really inspired me to toy around with the idea of doing another one in the following year!

I concepted a lot of ideas with friends on what a proper non-jokey Creepypasta Collab would even look like, If any of you reading this were at the TMG Philly Meetup (more on that later) you might even remember me discussing it with you! (shoutout @droid esp our convo about it really motivated the hell out of me to make the collab a reality) Eventually the idea to have it center around actually writing out stories with music and voice acting came about and it just felt so damn obvious! I wanted to do smth special with the presentation, making it an actual game where you find peoples submissions, just to really help it stand out. A large part of me really wanted to just go all out to make up for how messy the 2022 Creepypasta Collab was, and I feel like we totally succeeded!

If you havent checked out this years iteration of the collab I totally suggest you do! Its a bit janky but man am I proud of what me and the team accomplished with this! It was my first time making a game in almost 7 years!

Here's some of the ""concept art"" I did for the game!

I really wanted to do an original location and an original character cause I thought it would be really fun if the Creepypasta Collab had like, its own original mascot beyond the fucked up tankman we put everywhere (Which I do love mind you lol) Her name is Samantha! and she was designed to be like, a basic representation of a young kid. I wanted the game to sorta have the vibe of when u wake up in the middle of the night and want a glass of water but ur scared cause ur home alone or smth. Its really loose but i feel like that sort of thing works well for an event themed around internet Creepypastas, which nowadays really feel like a relic from the Internets younger years.

Some fun development tidbits:

• During the entirely of Development the game was called "Kitchenworld" as some sort of weird placeholder name, this is the reason you can find 3 tapes in the fridge.
• Github almost destroyed the entire project 5 times due to issues with the repo saving over itself incorrectly.
• Without @thecakewasalie this project wouldve never released on time so SHOUTOUT HIM!!! me and him were in call like every day grinding our asses off.
• Before the idea to make it fully original came about, it was gonna be set in a locked tank, youd play as tankman of course. This got scrapped really early. (i think it was pitched in January??)
• this is less of a tidbit and more of a shoutout, SHOUTOUT GODOT!! I LOVE YOU GODOT, GODOT IS THE BEST ENGINE I LOVE YOU GODOT!!! SUPPORT GODOT!!!
• Within my social circle i setup a bug bounty for a bug i couldnt find where id order whoever found it doordash lol (shoutout @kunishiro ty)
• The protagonist is named after the girl from Cod Zombies because when i was taking a break from coding i would play the map Origins with a bunch of pals (shoutout @lizziesdrawer for the initial name pitch)

TMG Philly Meetup!

I already did a full post about this event so this will be rather brief (check out that post for more cool junk!) but I couldnt NOT bring it up here!

I went cosplaying ENA and it was totally worth it, the amount of times since the event people have referred to me as "OMG u were the Philly ENA cosplayer!" is insane. Im totally cool with that being my legacy LMAO

This year I did a surprising amount of voice acting for a surprising amount of cool projects!

I voiced the protagonist in @frosty 's Threat != Contained!

This year, I want to keep the spirit of silly internet campfire ghost stories alive, so we have shifted direction a tiny bit. The basic idea is that you will create a spooky audio narrative piece sticking to the theme of an internet creepypasta. It can be goofy or serious! It can be fully acted out or a narrated script! You can make it newgrounds-themed or you can do your own thing entirely! You are encouraged to write out a script and collaborate with voice actors, artists, and musicians to bring your spooky audio experience to life! Work with your friends to make smth spooky ! !

Please do keep in mind this is an Audio based collab, Finished submissions should be uploaded to the Audio portal.

Guidelines/Details

• Make sure to tag your submission with ngcreepypasta23
• There should be a level of quality to your post, You can get goofy and shitposty with your submission but there should be effort put in nonetheless.
• Audio should be longer than 1 minute, and keep it roughly under 5 minutes.
• While not needed, bonus points for any visual aids/artwork attached to your submission!
• No A-rated submissions allowed. (If you feel your work may be too intense feel free to ask a collab mod in the discord and we can double check your work.)
• Make sure to put the transcript of your story in the description of the post (you can also link to it if you want to do that instead)
• The Collab deadline is October 28th, 2023 ! You have until then to submit your project!
• Make sure to enable downloads on your submission!

Hellohello again!

I promise you I didn't forget to write one of these! I've just been waiting for more public facing stuff I can talk about, and I just so happened to take a trip to Philly for the recent TMG Newgrounds Meetup! So we are are obviously gonna start there before we get to the more standard stuff

NG PHILLY TRIP

Last year there was a tiny lil get together at TooManyGames consisting of myself and a couple others, all of us were either already traveling together or just scrambled together from twitter posts. I remember on the drive back to my airbnb I hoped there would be another one next year and to my delight one got announced! I was really surprised at how absolutely massive this was in comparison! Thank you so much @cortat-g & the rest of the organizers for bringing this back and making it into smth really cool! It was so inspiring I straight up don't even know where to start recounting my experience! I had such lovely conversations with basically every single person I spoke to! Bumping into some of y'all outside the meetup just in various corners of the con or city was such a surreal experience, and its nice to finally put faces to names!

For the meetup (and the con itself) I went in cosplay as ENA, both because I really love the character and because I knew NG folks would recognize her. (I kinda underestimated how popular ENA is if im being honest... I spent a lot of time taking photos with people.)

This was my first ever time cosplaying and I'm extremely proud of how it came out! He wasn't at the meetup but I have to thank my good friend @sugaphys for helping me put it all together.

Back into the standard emistatus stuff now: I didn't post as much art as I would have liked but I still extremely proud of my progression as an artist! I can see my own improvement and it just gets me more and more excited to make stuff.

Experimented with painting style stuff with this one! I think for a first attempt it came out pretty good

I also got to participate in the MSPAINT collab aswell! I've never actually attempted to use mspaint for real art stuff so it was a bit of a struggle but I'm proud of the result

There are literally like zero updates on the Twitch side of things cause I fell out of streaming hard, I have infact revived my Youtube channel as I said I would in the last update! I just make whatever shitty lil gaming/news video I want to and because of that I've found this new love for the process

Fun fact for the people that may not have known about me for long but I only recently started doing art, I was always more of a Gamedev-y person doing backed on projects or QAing modjunk for steam games. The absolute majority of my artistic stuff is on this here website because me joining newgrounds is what got me drawing seriously in the first place! I wanna keep as much of my shitty early stuff up as possible so that one day, when im making crazy cool shit, you can go back and see where i started out! I think im kinda lucky to be able to have the start of my art journey so easily accessible. Its kinda funny actually, Pre-Newgrounds it was always weird that I *didnt draw*. I grew up around artists and like every friend group ive been in over the years had a bunch of art people in em but the peer pressure never hit until NG so I got all yall to thank for that ig haha

I feel like a lot of people would be discouraged by "starting late" when every artist i know has been drawing since they were like 2 but I try to champion it, I try to take notes on the people around me's art to learn as I go and experiment the best I can with everything I put out (even non-art stuff!) so I can maximize my growth while still enjoying the ride! Its always better to make smth shitty than something boring.

I'm gonna use this opportunity to post some Sketches/doodles that I havent shared otherwise since I think seeing this stuff is interesting (another fun fact, I did not use a sketch layer until *very* recently, I just started with the lineart like a dummy)

(the sweater used to be more complicated but I got stuck on it really badly when i got to coloring so I simplified for my own sanity, there was also a mannequin ig but who cares)

Twitch shit

Outside of the NG sphere I've been kickin into high gear with my Twitch channel. I started streaming seriously again a couple months back and its been super fun! Also big shoutout to the NG peeps that tune into my streams a bunch (hihi @bluejayng & @pollyanoid !! Its great seeing yall when u pop in) I appreciate the support a ton!

I'm currently doing a play through of the Dead Space remake on there with random other lil games spliced in there. I've also been trying to mix the NG love into my content, recently I went through the NG Pixel day submissions while live, I really like the idea of doin stuff like that so maybe tune in for some NG centric streams if ur into that sorta thing. (Dead Estate? Shoot Trip Die? Random Front Page games? Idk im down for whatever)

On the other side of the content fence my youtube channel is dormat as fuck and I should probably look into reviving it, I have a bunch of content ideas and even some unfinished videos I already recorded but i'm just super lazy about editing rn so we'll just have to see with that one

WHAT?

I can't believe I've actually hit 100 fans this soon?!?! Thank you everyone who follows me! Its been a pleasure posting here so far; Honestly its just nice to have a real site to post art n stuff to??? Since becoming active (account made in 2016, only actually started using it last year) I've released a bunch of art and music projects as well as being a host on my first collab!!!
